Gail Cammero Reilly has over 25 years of experience writing for and about nonprofits. Gail, who holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and English from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York, began her career as research assistant to Stephen L. Schechter and Daniel J. Elazar in "The role of the states as polities in the American federal system", for the Alaska Statehood Commission in 1982. (She was then Gail Charette.) This led to her appointment as Earhart Fellow at the Center for the Study of Federalism in Philadelphia, PA, which she held while attending the Master's program at Temple University. Gail was research assistant to the late Dr. Daniel J. Elazar, the Center's Director and leading political scientist and scholar in the study of federalism, political culture, the Jewish political tradition, Israel and the world Jewish community. Her projects included research assistant for the third edition of American Federalism: A View From the States. Under Dr. Elazar's direction, she also conceived and contributed to one of the first summer institutes for secondary school teachers, a project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Gail entered the nonprofit arena in 1984 and has brought her public policy background and exceptional research skills as a grant writer for health care and human service organizations. Gail has developed and written successful grant applications for the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Pew Charitable Trusts and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, among others. She has been employed by nonprofits in a management capacity for the past 20 years, including 9 years with a major health care institution and currently as the development director for a small-medium nonprofit. A versatile writer, Gail has authored material for multiple entities, from human service agencies to animal welfare groups, on diverse subjects ranging from health care, drug abuse prevention and treatment, emergency evacuation with animals and workforce development for people with disabilities. Gail is eager to apply her experience in the nonprofit world to write for Suite 101.com.
